In the wake of reports that Lebanese officials will be vaccinated at Parliament in violation of the national vaccination plan, the World Bank may stop its financing of vaccines for Lebanon.
“Upon confirmation of the violation, @WorldBank may suspend financing for vaccines and support for COVID19 response across Lebanon!!” Saroj Kumar Jha, World Bank Regional Director for the Middle East, said in a tweet on Tuesday morning.

The tweet came to answer a question by a citizen on Twitter about the consequences of breaching the World Bank’s terms and conditions with respect to fair vaccination.
“I appeal to all, I mean all, regardless of your position, to please register and wait for your turn,” Jha added.
The World Bank had announced in January that it would allocate $34 million to help Lebanon secure COVID-19 vaccines enough for 2 million people.
The country recently received its first shipment of vaccine doses and launched its national vaccination plan, which the World Bank said it would monitor to ensure a fair vaccine rollout.
Recent reports indicated that some hospitals in Lebanon had been violating the national vaccination plan by calling people and encouraging them to register with the hospitals directly to receive the vaccine.
