Lebanon recorded 3,497 new coronavirus (COVID-19) cases on Thursday, according to the Health Ministry’s report on the epidemic.
The total number of confirmed cases in Lebanon so far stands at 293,157, of which 118,039 are active, considering that 172,497 COVID-19 patients have recovered and 2,621 others have passed away.
In the past 24 hours, 2,430 patients underwent a full recovery and 68 died due to the disease.
In the same period, 16,362 PCR tests were administered, raising the total number of tests conducted since the virus reached Lebanon to 2,559,150.
According to the Health Ministry, 6 pregnant women or postpartum patients have passed away after contracting the virus.
“At the beginning of the pandemic, it was thought that pregnancy does not put the patient at risk for severe Covid illness. That has now been proven not to be true,” Firass Abiad, the head of Rafik Hariri University Hospital, tweeted in comment.
As of Thursday, 2,411 COVID-19 patients occupy hospital beds across the country, 938 are in critical condition in intensive care units, and 329 are on mechanical ventilation.
As the arrival date of the first shipment of vaccines ordered by Lebanon approaches, the Lebanese authorities have launched a vaccination plan that includes Lebanese and non-Lebanese residents.
On Wednesday, the Health Ministry confirmed 3,906 COVID-19 cases and 76 fatalities.
